"Why is skin type important?"
Knowing your skin type is a very important step. And it’s not only when we talk about makeup but it also plays an essential role in order to make a right decision about a proper skin care routine or treatment, which will be the most suitable for your skin type and cater your skin needs.
When you go in the market to buy skin care products and makeup essentials, you can find enormous brands and product lines which are designed to cater different skin types. Yes, different skin types have different requirements and each type needs a different regime to care for it. It’s very important to choose the skin care such as cleansers, moisturizers and cosmetics according to your skin type. Wrong products won’t only discourage you for not delivering the results you are looking for they will also cause damage to your face. For example if you have dry skin and buy an oil free moisturizer you may not get enough hydration that your skin needs. While on the other hand acne prone skins should avoid products with higher oil content and moisture.
So, in order to work the right way your first need to determine your skin type so you can work according to its requirements. There are basically four types of skin namely Oily, Dry, Normal, and combination. Normal and combination skin types behave almost the same way so we can take both under the same category.
THE PAPER TEST:
To find out your skin type, try this easy method out. For this you just need a few pieces of a tissue paper, plain facial tissue or an eyeglass lens cleaning tissue any of which is handy with you.
Now cleanse your face with a gentle, soap free cleanser; pat your face dry .Wait for 4 hours which will give your skin time to normalize. Now after 4 hours take the tissue paper and press it to the cheeks, your chin and forehead make sure to press it for a few seconds and then remove them. And hold it up to a light source.
- What do you see? Did the tissue paper stick on your skin? Can you see many patches of oil across the whole tissue paper? Then you are oily skin. For more about Basic skin care regime for oily skin you can check it out here.
- Does your tissue paper sticks but when you remove it you can either see very slight spots of oil over all or just a minor across T-Zone then you are Normal/combination skin. For more about normal skin you can check it here.
- And if your tissue paper sticks but comes out easily or doesn't sticks at all or show no or very minor oil signs on the tissue when hold up to a light then your skin is dry. For more about Skin regime for dry skin you can check here.
- Many times there is also defined another type of skin known as the sensitive skin ,which is actually a skin symptom rather than a skin type, check the do’s and don’ts for sensitive skin here.
